February 2018 – After initial in-house audits had been conducted in late 2017, Copart had the opportunity to adjust a few minor issues to prepare for the final certification audit scheduled for the end of January 2018. Upon completion of the comprehensive review of all of the company’s processes and indices, the automotive auctioneer can now proudly claim to be an ISO-certified enterprise.
For any company that is growing at the rapid pace Copart has reached, continuous improvement paired with high quality standards and a deep commitment to the protection of the environment are essential foundations of its consistent expansion and sustainable success. Based in Düren, Germany, the automotive distributor has always been aware of this and has now officially proven its standing by obtaining the ISO certification. In conjunction with the certification, multiple in-house audits were conducted to test and certify Copart’s environmental protection and quality management systems based on the international standards ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015.
The ISO 14001 standard defines the requirements for an environmental management system that are accredited worldwide. The focus is on continuous improvement processes aiming at the attainment of the defined environmental protection goals. This improvement process includes the specification and planning of the objectives and processes, the monitoring and control, as well as the optimization of the processes. ISO 9001 contains general quality management system mandates. The standard addresses responsibility and management issues. It also provides policies for monitoring, measuring, data analysis and improvement. The principles it is based upon include customer orientation, management accountability, continuous improvement, relationship management and the inclusion of the individuals involved. An annual assessment of the management system is conducted to ensure the permanent fulfillment of these standards.
“Besides refraining from contaminating the environment, our employees’ safety and health are key obligations we are committed to. We achieve this through the continuous improvement of our quality and environmental management system and, likewise, through the active involvement of our workforce,” observes Alain van Münster, General Manager of Copart Deutschland GmbH. In this context, Copart has set specific goals for its future – in particular, the creation and retention of secure jobs, the solidification and expansion of its market position and long-term business administrative success. The company’s recently published mission statement also communicates this vision. In the eyes of Copart’s customers and business partners, this certification documents that the vehicle auctioneer is aware of its humanitarian and environmental responsibilities, which makes the enterprise a trustworthy service provider and partner when it comes to the resale of cars that have been involved in accidents.
